Hotel conference rooms
These meetings are often held in windowless rooms that lend themselves more to counting ceiling tiles that brainstorming. Not to mention, there’s often no help with planning and no refreshments. You’ll have to consider all the materials you might need, bring them in, and pack up at the end of the day. Typically, you will be charged individually for every item you need—drinks, AV equipment etc. The phrase nickel and dimed comes to mind.
Restaurants
The convenience is that you don’t have to arrange for catering, but the downside is little to no work space. Attendees will likely find nearby diners and servers disruptive, and you probably will still not have help with planning.
Outside
Everyone likes fresh air, right? While there are benefits to enjoying the outdoors, there are too many unpredictable elements to make this a reliable, distraction free space.
On site
This is the fall back when budgets, time, and availability all fall through. Unfortunately, on site meetings trade convenience for productivity. If you factor in the time of all employees attending, as well as they work they aren’t accomplishing, you’ll find an offsite meeting is a minor expense compared to the cost of fruitless day onsite.
